5 Life Lessons That Will Make You Happier, Stronger, and More Grateful
5 Life Lessons That Will Make You Happier, Stronger, and More Grateful
“You get what you focus on, you are the universe, and everything you need is inside you.” We’ve heard these types of feel good mantras before, but how often do we really feel them at a soul level?
So often in the spiritual community we focus on well-being, but when we don’t feel good, we feel like we’ve failed or we are off track and behind. The pressure to be better than we actually are is a silent epidemic keeping so many people stuck.
If you feel like no matter what you do, it’s not good enough, you aren’t alone. The goal is to accept where you are and surrender to what is.
There comes a time when you just need to let go. Let go of how you thought your life was supposed to look and embrace what is. Let go of who you thought you should be so the real you can shine through. And let go of your past so the beautiful new can emerge.
I realized the true power of letting go a couple weeks ago while meditating at a wellness retreat, Rythmia in Costa Rica.
I suddenly realized the power of being in the journey and releasing expectations of our life. We are all doing a lot better than we give ourselves credit for. For today celebrate yourself and how far you’ve come.
And remember these spiritual life truths to help you move forward.

Everything Is Your Teacher
Summer Bacon, the author of the book This School Called Planet Earth, talks about everything in your life being an opportunity to learn and grow. Imagine everything as your teacher: the setbacks, the triumphs, the people you don’t understand, or the mishaps along the way. They are all in our life to groom us, to help us grow more into who we are meant to be.
The Journey Is the Reward
So many of us think that happiness will come when we get the raise, the soul mate relationship or the next best thing. Meanwhile our life is happening now. We skip over it in our pursuit of happiness, but the journey is more important. Who you become on the way to reaching your goals is more important than the manifestation. Be more in the journey by approaching your life as it is. Because in a year from now everything will be different.
Self-Actualization Is the Greatest Way to Heal the World
Gerry Powell, the founder of Rythmia, shared the secret to a happy life is to be true to yourself. “If we all just do what we want to do, the world would be a balanced place. The problem is most of us don’t do what we want.” When we deny ourselves our truth, we feel off track. Anxious. Depressed. And this is when addictions, self-sabotage and insecurities can set in. The fix is to be more true to yourself. Start by asking yourself, what do you want? What’s important to you? What can you do today to move yourself closer to that vision?
Everyone Is on Their Own Path
During a ceremony with a shaman at the retreat, I saw firsthand the power of each person truly having their own experience. The ceremony became a metaphor for life: some people were dancing, some laughing, some crying, others sleeping. It showed me that we are all on our own journey. We fall into frustration when we expect others to understand our path or be on the same page as us. But your journey is for you. It isn’t meant for others to understand. We can support each other by being there for one another, but honoring and respecting that everyone is on their own path. Including yourself.
We Always Get What We Need
We don’t always get what we want. You may want that promotion, the loan to be approved, or the new love interest to call you back, but when things don’t work out the way we hope, we can feel rejected. Each time something doesn’t work out as planned, you could feel even more frustrated with life. But instead of seeing things as a setback, consider that the Universe is leading you in a better direction. All setbacks are detours leading us to what will be in our highest good. If things aren’t working the way you want, simply relax. Take a big breath and remember that you always get what you truly need. The universe doesn’t make mistakes.
